Meatloaf

This is my favorite meatloaf recipe. I found it in an old Betty Crocker cookbook, but it's not in the newer editions. I think the nutmeg is the special ingredient!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sage

SAUCE:

  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp dry mustard

Directions

Preheat oven to 350° Soak bread crumbs in milk Add meat, eggs, onions, salt, pepper and sage; mix well. Form in loaf pan. Form oval shape depression in center of loaf. Prepare sauce by combining brown sugar, catsup, nutmeg and dry mustard. Pour half the sauce in the depression Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and add the rest of the sauce and continue baking for another thirty minutes.
